Teen recovering after burn incident

A 17-year-old man is recovering in hospital today after he suffered serious burns in Cork city, after he claimed he was set on fire on Barrack Street in the city.

Gardaí are investigating claims the young man was approached by three men at the junction of Barrack Street and Dean Street - beside Reid’s Square - at around 3.30am.

The teen says the three men asked him for money and doused him in flammable liquid and set him alight.

Today he was treated for burns at Cork University Hospital. A spokeswoman for the Southern Health Board said he was in a stable condition.

Gardaí in Barrack Street are investigating the alleged incident.

They are also appealing to anyone who may have been in the Barrack Street area at around 3.30am to contact them.
