Two people who died in a car crash in Co Monaghan yesterday evening have been named.

Two people who died in a car crash in Co Monaghan yesterday evening have been named.

They are 35-year-old Seamus Walsh from Bree, Castleblaney, and 48-year-old Theresa Murray of Bellview, Carrickmacross.

They were passengers in a car that went out of control and hit a bridge on the main N2 Dublin to Derry road, between Castleblaney and Monaghan Town at an accident blackspot that has claimed five lives over the past six years.

The driver, a Ms Frances Flanagan, sustained head and shoulder injuries and was removed by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Her condition is being described as comfortable.
