Man rescued after abduction

Police in Northern Ireland have rescued a man after he was abducted by an armed gang, it was revealed today.

The man, in his 30s, was seized at his home on the Antrim Road in north Belfast last night.

He was bundled into his white Porsche and driven away by the gang, said a police spokesman.

Around 90 minutes later, the car was intercepted in Whiterock Road in the west of the city and the man was rescued. One man was arrested at the scene.

Police said the freed man was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which were not believed to be serious.

Detectives investigating the abduction said they had not yet established a motive.
