Man injured in alleyway gun attack

A man was shot five times in Belfast today in a brutal paramilitary-style attack.

The 20-year-old was found lying in his own blood in an alley in east Belfast in the early hours of the morning.

Police and an ambulance crew had been called to the alleyway between Mersey Street and Severn Street, possibly by the man himself before being shot.

He had been shot once in each arm, once in each leg and once more in a hand.

He was taken to hospital for treatment where his condition was not believed to be serious.
