Dáil committee to investigate Ireland’s Olympic performance
The Oireachtas committee on the arts, sports and tourism has announced its intention to investigate Ireland’s poor Olympic performance.
The committee said it had asked the Irish Sports Council and the Olympic Council of Ireland to appear before it and answer questions on the matter.
Committee chair, Fianna Fáil TD Cecilia Keaveney, said Ireland’s overall performance, with the exception of Cian O’Connor’s gold medal, raised questions about the team’s preparations.
She said she wanted to know whether the Irish athletes blamed themselves for their disappointing performance or whether they felt other issues prevented them from achieving their best.
