More than 300 to take part in annual Liffey Swim

More than 300 people from 50 swimming clubs throughout Ireland are due to take part in this year’s annual Liffey Swim in Dublin.

More than 300 people from 50 swimming clubs throughout Ireland are due to take part in this year’s annual Liffey Swim in Dublin.

The race from Watling Street Bridge to Custom House Quay takes place at 3.30pm next Saturday.

World record holder Claire O’Dwyer and Channel swimmers Anne McAdam, Shay Dillon and Owen Gaffney are among the 300 contestants who have qualified for the event.

The youngest competitor is 13-year-old Niamh Dunne. The oldest is 71-year-old Jackie Kearney.

The first Liffey Swim took place in 1920 with 27 all-male contestants.
