Woman ‘deported while baby was with child-minder’

The Residents Against Racism group has claimed that gardaí refused to allow a Nigerian woman to be reunited with her baby girl ahead of her deportation last Wednesday morning.

The group said the baby, who is an Irish citizen, was with a child-minder when her mother was detained pending deportation.

It said it had received a call from the babysitter, who wanted to know what to do with the infant.

The Gardaí claimed last week that the woman chose to leave her baby behind with her partner.

However, Rosanna Flynn of Residents Against Racism said: “The mother went in to sign on, a routine signing on, and she was just snatched. The child was with a babysitter. She was not allowed to fetch the child, her mobile phone was taken away from her and she was absolutely distraught.”
