There are unconfirmed reports that four motorcycles were involved in a crash where motorcyclist Andy Wallace died at the Ulster Grand Prix.

“Several people have been taken to hospital but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening,” said a spokeswoman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

The organisers of the Ulster Grand Prix could not be contacted for comment.

Friend John McComisky said of the young rider: “I knew Andy pretty well. The guy was destined to be an absolute star. He did really well recently at the TT on the Isle of Man.

“He had something special. He was going to be the next big thing in racing.”

Mr Wallace, 24, worked as a motorcycle mechanic and was most recently living in Culloden in the Scottish Highlands.

He made his superbike debut at the Manx Grand Prix in 2003 and also participated in New Zealand’s International “Battle of the Streets” series.
