Numbers of equality claims against pubs falls

The Director of the Equality Tribunal, Melanie Pine, has reported a continuing decrease in claims against pubs.

The total number of claims referred to the Tribunal almost halved, from 604 in the same period last year to 305 in the first half of this year.

The Director announced the Tribunal's half-year report for the period January to June 2004 today.

The Equality Tribunal is now the forum of redress at first instance for all employment equality claims, including access to pensions, and for all equal status claims except those relating to licensed premises and registered clubs.
