A Cork businessman is to create 300 new jobs for Cork city, the Evening Echo reports.

Property developer Jack Lynch, who owns the Penrose Wharf complex, is in talks with an American firm to

secure a city centre-based international call centre, employing 300 people by Christmas.

Lynch plans to lease the old Thompson’s Bakery building on MacCurtain Street to a US IT firm.

He refused to name the company in question, but said that it already employs 180 people in Ireland.

Following an application early in the week, Lynch is waiting for planning permission to renovate the building, which he bought in 1987.

He also owns The Cotton Ball pub in his local Mayfield.
