Gardaí probe Letterkenny fire

Gardaí in Co Donegal are investigating a fire that ravaged one of the most historic buildings in the town of Letterkenny last night.

The blaze broke out at the Urban District Council offices in the Covehill area of the town sometime before 7pm.

The building, which had wood-panelled interior walls, was a Church of Ireland rectory from 1917 until its purchase by the UDC in the 1970s.

Nobody was injured in last night’s fire, but some council documentation is believed to have been destroyed.
