Irish citizens in Saudi Arabia advised to be extra cautious

The Department of Foreign Affairs has advised Irish citizens in Saudi Arabia to be extra cautious following the murder of a 63-year-old Irishman in Riyadh yesterday.

Anthony Higgins, a civil engineer from Galway, was shot dead by two men who entered his office yesterday afternoon.

The motive for the killing remains unclear, but reports this morning claimed Islamic militants may have been involved.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said Irish people in Saudi Arabia should register with the Irish Embassy in Riyadh and maintain a low profile in the country.

It said they should also boost their personal security and limit travel within the kingdom.
