Improvement 'still needed' in mental health services
The nature and quality of mental health services in Ireland need to improve, according to the Mental Health Commission’s annual report for last year.
The commission was established in 2002 to promote quality in the delivery of services and to protect the interests of people in mental institutions.
Its annual report for last year included, for the first time, a separate report by the Inspector of Mental Health, Teresa Carey.
Speaking at the launch of the document today, Ms Carey said she was concerned that mental health remains a low priority and that associated stigmas still prevail.
