Coastguard investigating oil spill off Galway coast

The Irish Coastguard is investigating reports of an oil spill near Mweenish island off the coast of Co Galway.

Local residents had reported the incident to the coastguard, which sent a helicopter to photograph the scene today.

The oil is believed to have leaked from a nearby wreck.

The extent of the spill is unknown, but pollution control equipment has been sent to the scene.
