Council to offer flats for sale to tenants
Local authority housing tenants will be given the opportunity to buy out their homes in flat complexes in Dublin City under a new Government scheme.
An estimated €1bn will be raised from the sales, but the Labour party has said that they have reservations about the scheme.
Labour councillor Kevin Humphreys today said that he welcomes the sale of the flats, but the money raised should go towards further housing, and not into Government coffers.
"Minister Cullen must now give a clear commitment that up to a billion euro be made available to the City Council for reinvesting in public housing," Cllr Humphreys said.
