Search resumes for missing Derry woman

Police and coastguards today resumed a search for a Co Derry woman missing from her home for more than a week.

Freda Mullan, 55, from Limavady has not been seen since leaving her home on July 22.

Friends and relatives joined in the search of a stretch of the Co Antrim coast as fears heightened over her safety.

Mrs Mullan’s Fiat Cinquecento car was discovered abandoned in a carpark beside the harbour at Portballintrae, Co Antrim on Monday.

A joint police and Coastguard search, which has involved a helicopter, was called off on Tuesday night.

Earlier this week, police searched B&Bs and hotels in the area, while Portrush and Ballycastle Coastguard Rescue teams were sent to the scene to conduct a search of the coastline.

The RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was launched and the Irish Army Air Corps and Rescue Helicopter also assisted in the search.
