Gardaí say no cash taken in botched ATM robbery

A garda investigation is underway in Co Wexford after the attempted robbery of an ATM machine in the early hours of this morning.

Several raiders used a JCB to pull the cash machine out of the wall in the village of Taghmon, about 15 miles from Wexford town.

However, it is now believed that the excavator broke down at the scene and the raiders were forced to leave both it and the ATM machine behind, and flee the scene.

Gardaí say that no cash was stolen.

Local residents raised the alarm at about 4:15am.

The scene has been sealed off for technical examination.
