20-year-old Derry assault victim dies in hospital

A 20-year-old man who was critically injured in an assault in Derry on Sunday morning has died in hospital in the city.

Don McMenamin suffered serious head injuries during the attack in the Rosemount area.

He had been on a life support machine since then and died in Altnagelvin Hospital yesterday at around 3pm.

A 30-year-old unemployed man has already been charged with attempting to murder Mr McMenamin.

The PSNI said yesterday that it was now treating the case as murder and would be reviewing the charges.
