Eight held in security van raids crackdown
Gardaí have arrested eight people in a crackdown on ‘cash in transit’ robberies.
In a series of raids in the North Dublin area over the past two days, officers arrested five men and three women and also seized a quantity of ammunition.
Five people were still in custody tonight. Gardai are to submit files to the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the three people who were released.
The operation – codenamed Delivery – was organised from the Harcourt Street Garda station.
Garda management put 25 detective there to monitor the movement of suspected gangs and gather intelligence.
There has been a spate of armed raids on security vans delivering cash in recent months.
More than €500,000 was stolen last week from security staff who were refilling an ATM cash machine in Bettystown, Co Meath.
