Gardaí smash counterfeit clothing racket

Gardaí today smashed what they believe was an international counterfeit clothing racket.

Officers from the Anti-Racketeering Unit of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation seized over €250,000 worth of goods in Coolock, north Dublin.

The clothing, which is understood to have originated in Pakistan, was discovered following a joint investigation with the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Enquiries have also commenced with Interpol about how the clothing, mostly consisting of jeans with the Levi’s logo, got to Ireland.

No-one was arrested, but a Garda spokesman said investigations are continuing and a file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
