Ahern representing EU at G8 summit in US

The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is representing the European Union at a G8 summit in the US state of Georgia today.

Rising oil prices, Third World debt, the Middle East and US President George W Bush’s plans for the future of Iraq are all on the agenda for the talks, which are taking place on the Sea Island resort.

The G8 is made up of the world’s seven richest countries – the US, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada – plus Russia.
