Irish cameraman dies in Saudi gun attack

An Irish cameraman working for the BBC has been shot dead in Saudi Arabia.

Simon Cumbers, from Navan in Co. Meath, was working in the country's capital, Riyadh, with BBC Security Correspondent Frank Gardner.

The pair came under fire from gunmen in a city suburb when they were filming a report about growing fear amongst expatriates in Saudi.

The 36 year-old died from his injuries after the shooting, which occurred in the al-Suwaydi district, an area where "many extremists have been arrested in recent months," according to the UK ambassador.

Gardner was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
