Govt bids to set up Brian Curtin probe
The Government is expected to table a Dáil motion in the coming days establishing an Oireachtas committee to investigate the conduct of Circuit Court judge Brian Curtin.
A second motion to determine the membership of the committee and its terms of reference is also due to be tabled.
The Government received correspondence from Judge Curtin’s lawyers over the weekend, but the content of the letter has not been made public.
However, the judge’s legal team is believed to be strongly considering a legal challenge to any Oireachtas committee established to investigate their client’s affairs.
The cabinet is due to discuss the matter at its weekly meeting today before making a final decision on how to proceed.
