Archbishop calls for action on poverty
The Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, has called for action to combat the ongoing problem of disadvantage and social exclusion in the city.
Archbishop Martin said a large proportion of Dublin’s population was living in poverty and hopelessness, despite the recent economic boom.
“If we want to make sure that everybody can really fully participate in society, we have to focus on those who are disadvantaged and who find it very hard to catch up with the rest of us,” he said.
The archbishop was speaking at the launch of the latest annual report from Crosscare, a Catholic youth agency that runs social programmes in Dublin and surrounding areas.
