Most spinal injuries victims unable to return to work

More than half the people who suffer spinal injuries in Ireland are unable to return to work, according to statistics published today by Spinal Injuries Ireland.

The figures showed that an average of one person sustains a spinal cord injury in Ireland every week.

Road accidents are the main cause of such injuries and most victims are men aged between 18 and 35.

Spinal Injuries Ireland is due to launch an awareness campaign about the problem on Monday.
