The British government has officially cut the Stormont allowances of Sinn Féin and the Progressive Unionist Party as punishment for alleged ongoing paramilitary activity.

The decision to block the allowances for one year was made after the Independent Monitoring Commission accused the Provisional IRA and Ulster Volunteer Force of continued involvement in paramilitarism and criminality.
