Ahern to meet North's police federation

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, is due to meet representatives from the North’s Police Federation in Dublin later today.

The federation believes the policing reforms negotiated under the Good Friday Agreement are being implement too quickly and has arranged today’s meeting to discuss its concerns.

The federation believes operational needs, rather than politics, should be driving the reform agenda and has called for the full-time police reserve to be retained until 2010 at the earliest.
