An elderly man and two children have died in separate accidents around the country.

An elderly man and two children have died in separate accidents around the country.

A 72-year-old man died when the jeep he was driving collided with a tractor and trailer in Co Galway, yesterday evening. The crash took place shortly before 5pm at Loghturk West, Kiltormer.

The deceased was removed to Portiuncula hospital, Ballinasloe, and the gardaí are investigating the incident.

Elsewhere, a seven-year-old girl was killed after a quad bike crashed into a wall in Carrickfergus in Antrim.

And an investigation has been launched into the death of a 15-year-old boy, who was killed in a farming accident, involving a tractor, in Ballymacarbry in Waterford. The Health and Safety Authority are to attend the scene on Monday.
