Committee to recommend public voting in Seanad elections
The Seanad’s committee on procedure and privileges is reportedly set to recommend that the public be given the right to vote in Seanad elections.
Reports this morning said the committee would recommend that the number of senators elected by local councillors and TDs be radically reduced and that the vocational panels that nominate candidates for the Seanad be abolished.
The reports said the committee would also recommend an increase in the size of the Seanad from 60 to 65 seats and that the leader of the Seanad be given the right to attend cabinet meetings.
