Ballymun demolition to be delayed due to presence of asbestos
The Health and Safety Authority has confirmed that the demolition of the Ballymun flats complex in Dublin will not be allowed to go ahead until asbestos has been safely removed from the buildings.
The company rebuilding the area had requested permission to demolish the flat without removing the asbestos, which can cause cancer.
Reports last month said the removal of asbestos from the buildings could delay the €2.5bn Ballymun regeneration project by four years and could cost the taxpayer €80m to €120m.
