A member of the Catholic hierarchy has caused controversy by telling people who aren't regular mass-goers not to seek church weddings or to send their children forward for baptism.

In a homily, the Bishop of Kerry Bill Murphy said that for such people to receive the sacraments would be "a lie, a charade and an abuse".
