No matches to McConville bullet, expert tells inquest

A forensic expert has told the inquest into the death of Jean McConville that police on both sides of the border had uncovered no matches to the bullet removed from Ms McConville’s skull after her remains were discovered on a beach in Co Louth last August.

Ms McConville, a mother-of-10, was executed by the IRA on suspicion of being a British army informer and buried in an undisclosed location.

Her body remained undiscovered for 31 years, despite a series of searches organised by the gardaí on foot of information provided by the IRA during the peace process.

Her body was eventually found last August by a man out walking on Shelling Hill beach.
