FG to decide strategy for European election in Dublin
Fine Gael’s national executive is due to meet today to decide whether to run one or two candidates in the Dublin constituency during June’s European election.
The party’s foreign affairs spokesman, Gay Mitchell, former TD Frances Fitzgerald, barrister Colm MacEochaidh and Fine Gael activist Catherine Meenan are all hoping to contest the seat on June 11.
However, sources within the party say it is virtually certain that Mr Mitchell will be the only Fine Gael candidate on the ballot paper in Dublin.
The party’s formal selection convention for the Dublin candidate is due to take place next Monday night.
