McKenna welcomes MEPs’ rejection of data-sharing deal
Green Party MEP Patricia McKenna has welcomed the European Parliament’s decision to reject a deal that would have seen the EU handing over airline passenger details to the United States.
The plan to share personal information about people flying between the EU and US was drawn up as part of efforts to fight global terrorism.
However, Ms McKenna said the plan would have breached airline passengers’ civil liberties and also claimed that there were no restrictions placed on the use of the shared information.
