The celebrations to mark the accession states' entry to the European Union will go ahead despite a music concert being cancelled, the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O'Donoghue has said.

The 'Beautiful Night' concert which was scheduled for the evening of May 1 in Dublin was cancelled yesterday after it emerged that the capital's main thoroughfare - O'Connell Street - would have to be closed for up to nine days to facilitate the broadcast.
