Galway murder trial begins

A Galway man has pleaded not guilty to murder.

A Galway man has pleaded not guilty to murder.

At the Central Criminal Court, Mr Michael Reilly (aged 52) of Corrach Bhuí, Rahoon, Galway, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Patrick Shaughnessy (aged 28) of Coogan Park, Galway at Corrach Bhuí on May 25, 2002.

A jury of five women and seven men was sworn in by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court.

The jury is to begin hearing evidence before Mr Justice Barry White on Wednesday and the murder trial is expected to last at least two weeks.
