Taylor will not seek UUP leadership
Former Ulster Unionist MP John Taylor has ruled himself out of any potential leadership challenge, he confirmed today.
With David Trimble under pressure from some sections to stand down, Taylor, now known as Lord Kilclooney, announced he had no interest in the position which could go to a vote at the party’s AGM later this month.
He said: “It is my intention to withdraw further from active politics.”
Reg Empey, who served as economy minister before the Stormont power-sharing executive collapsed, has emerged as a possible candidate, although he has refused to make any comment.
