Tribunal hears outline of Gilmartin allegations

Lawyers for the Mahon Tribunal have outlined some of the allegations property developer Tom Gilmartin will make when he gives evidence to the tribunal over the coming days.

Mr Gilmartin will tell the tribunal about a meeting he held with several senior government ministers in Leinster House in 1989 to discuss his planned Quarryvale development.

He will claim that Bertie Ahern, Albert Reynolds, Charles Haughey, Padraig Flynn, Ray Burke, Gerry Collins and Mary O’Rourke were all present at the meeting.

The tribunal heard today that all of these would deny the meeting took place except Mrs O’Rourke.

Mr Gilmartin will also claim that he was approached by an unidentified man after the meeting and

told to deposit £5m in an Isle of Man bank account for Fianna Fáil.

He will claim that, when he refused, the man warned he could “end up in the Liffey” for that statement.
