University postpones election amid intimidation
The University of Ulster has postponed a Students’ Union election due to alleged intimidation by supporters of the Continuity IRA.
One candidate’s posters had graffiti scrawled on them, allegedly by a supporter of the dissident republican group.
The candidate, John Hogan, said he was so upset by the matter he was considering leaving college and returning to his native Co Donegal.
He claimed a friend who was also seeking election to the Students’ Union was also considering leaving because of intimidation.
