Burnside to call for UUP leadership election

The anti-agreement Ulster Unionist David Burnside is expected to call for a leadership election within the party at Stormont today.

The move comes amid growing speculation of a leadership challenge to David Trimble at the UUP annual general meeting next month.

Mr Burnside is not expected to declare himself as a candidate today, but is expected to encourage others to put their names forward.
