Four teens killed in North accident

Four teenage boys were killed today when their car careered off the road.

It hit a tree in a hedge and overturned into a field after travelling over a hump on a straight stretch of road on the northern outskirts of Belfast.

All the dead were from the greater Lisburn area.

A fifth teenager was taken to hospital, but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

All five were in a white Corsa which left the road three miles outside Ligoniel as it headed towards Antrim on a stretch of road known as the Seven Mile Straight.

Three hours after the accident, the four bodies were still inside the wrecked car. No other vehicle was involved.

Police said the car was not stolen.

Chief Inspector Nick Purce said: “It is a scene of absolute carnage and extremely distressing. Four young people have been cut down in the prime of their lives. It’s a tragedy.”
