Special committee to investigate bus crash

A special committee has been set up to inquire into the circumstances of Saturday's bus crash on the South Quays in Dublin, in which five people died.

Four international experts have been appointed to assist the committee in its investigations.

The group is being asked to inquire into the circumstances of the crash, to establish a cause for the accident and to make recommendations to prevent a recurrence in the future.

Management have spoken to the drivers of both buses involved in the crash, however they haven't been formally questioned in relation to the incident.

CIÉ Chairman Dr John Lynch says no decisions have been taken yet as to weather or not the drivers should be suspended from duty. The are currently getting counselling.

"We all have to wait until such a time as we get a report, it is unlikely that they will be in the short term because if they are getting counselling obvious that is a serious issue," he said.
