Cork superdump gets rubber stamped

An Bórd Pleanála has given the green light for Cork County Council to build a 250-acre dump in Bottlehill, North Cork.

Bottlehill is an upland scenic region, over 1,000 feet above sea level, with vast stretches of woodland.

The superdump was proposed four years ago and became one of the biggest issues for local politicians, who have been targeted by the many protesters against the dump.

Granting permission today, An Bórd Pleanála said it did not believe the dump would have any adverse effect on the environment.

The Bórd added that they have laid down 12 conditions to ensure that there were no negative consequences of the decision including an alternative drinking supply if any local source is polluted and improvements to roads that waste trucks will be using.
