The family of abducted Westies crime boss Shane Coates has reported his disappearance to the gardaí.

It is believed the 31-year-old was bundled into a car boot and kidnapped, along with his friend Stephen Sugg, by a Mediterranean drugs gang in Alicante, Spain two weeks ago as a result of a row over payment for a shipment of cannabis.

The two men fled the country last year after a gun battle between members of their west Dublin crime gang and the emergency response unit in Co Cavan.

Gardaí are co-operating with Spanish police to discover the whereabouts of the men, and whether they are dead or alive.
