Tipp murder jury retires for a second night

A murder trial jury was sent to a hotel for a second night tonight after failing to reach a verdict in the trial of an English man accused of murdering his wife in a Co Tipperary hotel two years ago.

After more than nine hours of deliberations at the Central Criminal Court, the jury in the trial of John Collinson failed to agree a verdict.

The accused has admitted killing Rosie Collinson, his wife of 33 years, but denies murdering her.

Trial judge Mr Justice Paul Carney has allowed the jury to consider the defence of provocation.

John Collinson (51) an UK national with an address at Geos, The Nethlerlands, denies murdering Rosie Collinson (51) of Bridge Street Carrick On Suir at the Bell and Salmon Arms Hotel on 3rd March 2002.

The jury will resume its deliberations at the Central Criminal Court tomorrow.
