Dept of Education 'could compromise inquiry'

Opposition parties are calling for responsibility for the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse to be taken away from the Department of Education.

Labour's Jan O'Sullivan said the Department of the Taoiseach should take over the role.

Paul Gogarty, of the Green Party, said today's report is a damning critique of the Department of Education, saying its continued involvement would compromise the inquiry.

Olwyn Enright of Fine Gael said the Education Minister has lost all credibility in dealing with the abuse commission.
