Amnesty to hold Dublin ‘Die In’
Amnesty International is holding what it calls a "Die In" in Dublin today as part of its campaign for an international arms trade treaty.
The plaza in front of the Central Bank will be turned into a graveyard with hundreds of activists lying between actual-size tombstones.
Amnesty says one person is killed every minute in developing countries by weapons supplied by some of the world's biggest superpowers, and Ireland should use its EU presidency to make a difference.
Amnesty's Youth and Student Officer, Sara Hakim, says that although Ireland is not a major arms producer, our conscience is far from clean, as we manufacture computer components and other equipment that is used in weapons systems.
