Defence Minister to visit Irish troops in Liberia

Defence Minister Michael Smith is due to travel to Liberia today to visit Irish soldiers on a UN peace-enforcing mission in the war-torn African nation.

Defence Minister Michael Smith is due to travel to Liberia today to visit Irish soldiers on a UN peace-enforcing mission in the war-torn African nation.

Mr Smith will meet the soldiers during a trip to Camp Clara, their base of operations.

He is also due to meet members of the country’s transitional government, the commander of the UN mission and the local representative of the UN secretary-general before flying back to Ireland on Friday.
