Legal action is to be dropped against prison staff as part of a deal hammered out with the Northern Ireland Office to avert a UK wide strike, it emerged today.

The Prison Officers Association has also called off the threat of future industrial action at Maghaberry Prison, near Lisburn, Co.Antrim, where loyalists have been involved in a series of violent protests.
