Christmas drink-driving and speeding arrests increase

Gardaí have reported that they arrested 1,500 drink drivers over the Christmas and New Year period, an increase of 55 on the same period last year.

Speeding detections surged from 18,000 to almost 26,000, but those caught not wearing seat belts was nearly half the 6,700 figure from 12 months ago.
